We are deeply saddened to tell you of the passing of Robert A. Altman, our Founder and CEO. He was a true visionary, friend, and believer in the spirit of people and the power of what they could accomplish together. He was an extraordinary leader, and an even better human being.

Originally a lawyer, Altman became the co-founder, chairman, and CEO of ZeniMax Media — the parent company of Bethesda. In addition to owning Bethesda Softworks, ZeniMax also owns id Studios, MachineGames, Arkane Studios, and Tango Gamework. Altman was also married to actress Lynda Carter — who is popularly known as the original live-action Wonder Woman from the 70’s.

Altman’s death comes during a period when ZeniMax Media and Bethesda Softworks were being acquired by Microsoft in a deal that would definitely change things up for the company that owns Windows and Xbox. The deal is being decided upon by the European Union — the results of which will be revealed on March 5.
