Yakuza: Like a Dragon PS5 version has finally been announced by SEGA, although it’s expected to release sometimes after the current-gen consoles and Xbox Series X releases.
The news comes from IGN as part of their [email protected] coverage in which SEGA confirmed that a PS5 version is in development. However, despite the title releasing in November for the PS4 and Xbox consoles, the PS5 version will arrive at a later date. No further details were provided as to why this will be the case, or as to when we can expect to see it. The PS4 version will still be playable on the PS5, though the benefits will only come from the console itself rather than the studio. They left off by stating that an upgrade program is currently being planned for the PS5.
Additionally, this news is also accompanied by the announcement of an English dub. Yep, you read right, Yakuza is getting an English cast, the first Yakuza game since Yakuza 2 released for the PS2 back in 2006. Legendary actor, George Takei will be playing the antagonist, Masumi Arakawa. Down below you can find a list of the other English voice cast.
- “Kaiji Tang as Ichiban Kasuga, the protagonist of the story returning from 18 years spent in prison”
- “George Takei as Masumi Arakawa, patriarch of the Arakawa Family”
- “Andrew Morgado as Koichi Adachi, an ex-cop on the search for truth”
- “Greg Chun as Yu Nanba, downtrodden former nurse making amends with the world”
- “Elizabeth Maxwell as Saeko Mukoda, a bar hostess on a mission”
An official trailer also got released, showing off some of the English voice cast.
This is pretty exciting, although long time players will most likely opt for the Japanese VO since that’s been the only option Yakuza has offered since Yakuza 2. Yakuza: Like a Dragon is scheduled to launch this November for the PS4, Xbox One, PC with the Xbox Series X version available at the console launch. We’ll be sure to update everyone once Yakuza: Like a Dragon PS5 version has a firm release date.
