In a recent stockholding meeting,  Square Enix revealed that they have several new game announcements that are currently planned during the months of July and August. You read that right, that means Square Enix new games will be announced soon.

As translated by Gamastu, the company held an investment meeting this last Wednesday where they outlined some of their 2020 plans. Despite E3 2020 being canceled, the company had originally intended to host their own online event. However, these plans have been altered due to not being able to have the assets prepared in time. Instead, they will individually announce the titles sometimes between July and August. The company reports that they have several titles to reveal, though left no indications as to what they may possibly be.

Question: Normally, you would announce new games at E3, but how has coronavirus affected your plans this year?

Answer: We would normally announce new games at E3, yes. We had planned to have a press conference as a replacement event, but were unable to do so since assets were not complete. We’ll be announcing new titles individually as the timing permits. Several will debut around July to August.

We expect plenty of those to fall within the “small” budget types of games, however, being Square Enix there’s a high probability that we will get some sort of AAA studio. Whether that falls along the lines of a new Final Fantasy entry, or a completely new IP such as Project Athia remains to be seen. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as we slowly creep closer to July. Fingers crossed they have something that we aren’t expecting!
