While finishing a game was often a reward by itself, some players take it a step further by “maxing” out a game’s in-game achievements or in Sony games, reaching Platinum. It seems Sony took it a step further for Ghost of Tsushima, as the company has involved real-world rewards into the mix for its employees!
Over on Twitter, multiple Sony first-party employees shared that Sony held an internal competition wherein the first 50 people to Plat Ghost of Tsushima would receive a real-life sword handguard!
“Birdman Drew,” who’s a Game Designer at Guerrilla Games for Horizon Forbidden West tweeted a message out today:
Sony recently ran an internal competition: The first 50 players to unlock the platinum trophy for Ghost of Tsushima won a replica tsuba (sword hand-guard) in a beautifully engraved display box.
I finished in 2nd place! 🥈✨ pic.twitter.com/Of7L8d9voF

Scotamari (which we’re guessing isn’t his real name), who handles Retail Activations at Sony also got one and he displayed it with his Jin Ghost mask:
Oh man I was wondering who got ahead of me! I was 3rd! pic.twitter.com/IYnjYPXwSM

Senior Technical Manager Kara Johnson finished 27th, also displayed her sword handguard alongside her Ghost of Tsushima Collector’s Edition items:
Wohoo, congrats! I finished 27th and it still took me a week to recover from the binge 😭 Loved every moment of the game though. Plus the tsuba looks amazing alongside the Collector's Edition items. pic.twitter.com/fczGAwE9Z2

It’s understandable why Sony isn’t doing this for the general gaming populace, this is still a cool bit of news.
