One of the most recognizable video game composers in history is already teasing what he’s going to do next, as legendary Silent Hill series composer Akira Yamaoka has said during a video interview with Al-Hub that he’s got a new game project announcement that will be coming up this summer.
Having kept busy even after finishing his time with the survival horror series, Yamaoka said he’s working on something new and something “we’ve been waiting for”… but can’t talk about until summer comes along.
“When, I wonder… I think I might be able to talk about it around the summer or so… (Summer this year?) That’s right… But I’m quite sure it will be the one you’ve been waiting for, Mutlaq [the interviewer].”
Is it the brand new Silent Hill game that’s been rumored to be in the works? It’s anyone’s guess at this point and only Akira Yamaoka knows the answers for sure. The last time the Konami owned horror property was given a revival attempt was way back in 2012 — when Metal Gear series creator Hideo Kojima and film director Guillermo del Toro teamed up for “Silent Hills”. Unfortunately that was ultimately cancelled and Kojima left Konami following the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
Time will tell if Yamaoka’s work is indeed a new Silent Hill entry. In the meantime, you can hear the composer’s work in the new psychological horror game “The Medium”.
