While Capcom’s most famous propery (arguably) is the Street Fighter franchise, it’s nowhere near as good commercially as the publisher’s survival horror series, Resident Evil. During the publisher’s quarterly earnings report, Capcom revealed that the Resident Evil lifetime sales are now at over 98 million units — now, that’s a lot of zombie heads popped!
In the same financials report, Capcom revealed that the excellent Resident Evil 2 Remake released in 2019 sold an impressive 6.5 million units. Overall, the Resident Evil brand is Capcom’s best-selling property, and in case you’re wondering, nope, it’s not Street Fighter in the second spot but Monster Hunter! Buoyed by Monster Hunter World which is still thriving to this day, the franchise has sold 63 million units to date.
Coming in at third place is the Street Fighter series, which has sold 44 million units, with other noteworthy Capcom properties not doing bad either. The Mega Man franchise is at 36 million sold, Devil May Cry is at 22 million, and Dead Rising has sold 13 milliom units.
Of course, given this data is from the last fiscal year, and the publisher just having released Resident Evil 3 Remake, this staggering number for Resident Evil sales is bound go go up significantly before the year is done. Speaking of Resident Evil 3 Remake, make sure you read our review to see what we make of it.
