Looks like Prince of Persia fans who were looking forward to revisiting one of the most beloved installments in the franchise will have to wait just a bit longer, as Ubisoft Pune has announced they have decided to delay the remake of 2003 game “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time”.

Here’s a tweet from Daniel Ahmad resharing the announcement from Ubisoft Pune, which has since been deleted but has now gone viral along with a translation of the message below.

Greetings, Prince of Persia fans!

During our Ubisoft Forward digital conference, we proudly announced Prince’s return from Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake.

We are excited to be able to put this game in your hands again as we retell the story of Prince and Farah in the amazing 11th century Persia. However, 2020 was a year like no other. Today we would like to inform you that we need more time to complete the game. With that, the release date of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has been moved to March 18, 2021. We believe this is the right decision to ensure we deliver a game you enjoy.

Thank you for your patience and continued support of the Prince of Persia, and we hope you remain safe and healthy during this holiday season.

Originally scheduled for a January 21, 2021 release, the Sands of Time remake faced early skepticism and backlash when the reveal trailer was first unveiled at Ubisoft Forward 2020 — with the game hardly looking like remake and more of a lackluster enhanced port. Putting more time to fixing and tweaking this game before releasing it is always a good thing, especially as a lot of delays came this year due to the ongoing global pandemic. Hopefully Ubisoft surprises us with new improvements before the game comes out next year.
