It looks like fans of the LucasArts classic RPG Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic may be in for some exciting news, as VGC posted a rumor that the a new game based on that continuity is in development by a mystery studio that is said to not be BioWare or Electronic Arts.

Recent comments made by Bespin Bulletin in a podcast episode suggest that it’s a KOTOR game, but nothing is confirmed on that department.

“Amongst my digging, I heard there is a Knights of the Old Republic project in development somewhere,” Bespin Bulletin said. “I talked to a couple of people, and I also found out that Jason Schreier said that it’s not with EA, and we’ll ‘never guess’ who the studio is that’s making this game.”

With LucasFilm Games outsourcing their properties to several studios including Bethesda for an Indiana Jones game, having a new KOTOR game sounds ripe for the picking —  especially as the game prepares to celebrate its 20th Anniversary in two years time. KOTOR has been hailed as one of greatest Star Wars games ever made, and while the Disney acquisition of Lucasfilm officially writes its continuity off canon, maybe this new game may reestablish or incorporate elements from the original.
