Resident Evil fans who aren’t too big on the whole multiplayer aspect of the series will be happy to learn that any story elements presented in Resident Evil Resistance will not be canon to the main story.

In an interview published by The Official PlayStation Magazine, Resident Evil 3 producer Peter Fabiano stated that the game is meant to serve simply as a fun online experience tied with Resident Evil connection. Players can expect to see many familiar faces appear during certain scenarios, but because of how those scenes are set-up it makes it impossible to fit anywhere in the main Resident Evil timeline.

As for why the online game is being bundled with Resident Evil 3, to begin with? Well, Fabiano explains it was due to the themes they both shared.

You’ll remember that the Japanese subtitle for RE3 was Last Escape,” Fabiano said. “Both of these titles have characters that are trying to escape somewhere or something, so thematically it made sense. We also wanted to take up the challenge of building out an online game set in the RE universe.”

So there you have it if you are strictly a single-player only kind of person then you don’t have to worry about missing out on any additional story element that Resistance may introduce.

Resident Evil 3 Remake will be released on April 3rd for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
