In case you missed the news, Platinum Games recently launched a Kickstarter campaign for a remastered version of the Wonderful 101, which has already broken many of its stretch goals. And while the team is currently focusing on delivering it, it would appear that some of their other titles are up for consideration as they have discussed the possibility of an Astral Chain multiplatform release. However, the only hurdle they face is Nintendo.
Speaking with Videogameschronicle, Platinum Games studio head Atsushi Inaba discussed the success of Astral Chain and spoke a bit about whether the title may receive similar treatment as The Wonderful 101.
“In the case of Astral Chain, it’s an IP that’s owned half by Platinum and half by Nintendo,” he said. “So right now it just came out and it’s too early to say. For the time being, we’re just hoping that it’s a success for the Nintendo Switch and we’ll see how it goes from there. Ultimately it’s Nintendo’s call, not ours. They own the publishing rights to Astral Chain so really we have no say in that matter. We consider The Wonderful 101 an exclusive case.”
I myself have played Astral Chain and found it to be a rather enjoyable experience overall. We don’t fully expect the title to be available (if at all) anytime soon on any platforms other than Nintendo, but given the companies relationship with Platinum Games, it could very well happen eventually down the road.
Astral Chain is now available, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
